What next?

How I choose what book to do depends on what book I feel like reading. Lately I've been in one of those moods where I don't feel like reading anything I own. So, I want requests and suggestions from you guys on what to do. As long as I can find it in my shitty library, I'll try to get through it. Or, there's a buttload of books I own that I still haven't done. Here's a teeny sample:

-FH Stephanie - some college book that might be the worst FH book I've ever read, and they're not exactly literary masterpieces.

-FH Sisters book - something about Valentine's Day. I don't really remember what it's exactly about, but I know it's horrible because it's not just from Stephanie's P.O.V., but Michelle's, too. I heartily second MilkMan's opinion on Michelle.

-Girl Talk - still have a stack of them, including the one where Katie joins the hockey team, one where Allison's mom gets knocked up and Allison acts like a little shit about it, and the one where Randy joins a band and there are tons of insinuations to her manliness.

-BSC - I have #1-60, and then random ones after that, and I think #1-9 of the Super Specials and #1-8 of the sucktastic mysteries. Ooh, and I do have an awful Little Sister book that I found recently, too. I'm also trying to acquire the rest of the California Diaries.

-SVH - I have so many random ones, sadly not as many old ones as the miniseries. Oddly enough, I don't own the one where Robin gets all ano even though it's one of my favorites. Yeah, there's something wrong with me.

-Forever by Judy Blume - I'm kind of torn on doing this one, because part of me thinks that it's a wonderful true-to-life book about a teenage romance, and then the other part thinks Michael is a little creepy.

-Party of Five Claudia - I never knew there was more than one Claudia book, as I could only ever find the one where she skips school to win tickets for a concert (which I sadly gave away), but I acquired a different one at a thrift store, and my shitty library has the other one.

-V.C. Andrews aplenty - name a series and I have it, and yes, I do think I shall be finishing the FITA series. If There Be Thorns is just too crazy not to.

-Newer YA books, like Gossip Girl, Princess Diaries, The A-List, The Clique... - I can't grow up.

-Some random 80's YA novels - this also includes a few Cheerleaders and Junior High books, and my library has most of the Barthe DeClements and Anastasia books.

So let me know what you guys want, whether it be from my list or something you just liked that I didn't name. I'm bored with all my books, and need requests!

My personal vote is for the Girl Talk books. That whole series was so fucking ridiculous yet at one point I owned all 45 books. So sad. Othewise, I've read pretty much every book or series you mentioned so reading your take on it would still be fun.

You ever read any Christopher Pike growing up, Snapple? They were talking about it over at the Dairy Burger and I find myself wishing there was a blog devoted to his books.

I forgot all about Christopher Pike! I only own the Chain Letter books and 2/3 of the Final Friends series, but I loved the Remember Me trilogy hardcore and I've read it about three billion times, give or take a billion. He was so much weirder and grown up than R.L. Stine, so I liked him better. I actually was going to do Chain Letter and forgot about it!

I think I owned every Girl Talk book at one point, too, because someone put nearly the whole series on the discard shelf at my library. I'm a horrible person, so after I read them I gave them all away. I still have like 9 or so here that I haven't recapped yet, though.

LOL on the Cheerleader books...I forgot about those!!! Was the pretty girl's name Mary Beth? It's been so long...but I do remember Preston and his rich parents and his hot car! Gah, if you did those, that'd totally make my day.

I'm a shameless Gossip Girl fan...though of the TV series, not so much the books. Because the books don't have Penn Badgely. Who is essential to my love for the show.

I think a snark of a BSC Little Sister would be hilarious...or, well, any BSC book. I like the sound of a Christopher Pike post, though.

I have no idea about any of the Cheerleaders characters. I read one with a girl named Hope and they were doing some love letter writing thing like Cyrano, but that book is long gone. I just randomly found a different one in my room, and I have no idea where it came from. I guess the 80's YA Book Fairy visited me in the night and left it.

hmmm I'd love for you to do some Christopher Pike books, I loved those as well as finishing up FITA. Ohh and just a suggestion, after a little while once you've calmed down from the craziness that is FITA, maybe the Casteel series.

Tony Tatterton IS made for snarking!

You know I am alllll about the V.C. Andrews!

dude. he names his dick ralph, right? you must do this!

ooooh, Christopher Pike sounds awesome! i'd like to see The Lost Mind or The Midnight Club reviewed... or Chain Letter or Weekend. i was all about Christopher Pike when i was a tween.

I vote for more VC Andrews!
The Dawn series would be awesome.
I also would LOVE to see you do Forever.

I'm also voting for Forever by Judy Blume - I just read this for the first time this weekend, and Michael also creeped me out.

ames said...

Can you guys believe I have never read Forever? I'm kind of afraid to take it on....

Jen said...

I see alot of people rooting for Judy Blume which would be cool as well. I haven't read Forever in... well forever and I only read it once. Her young adult books are good but have you read her books for adults?

I've only read Summer Sisters, which is amazing, and I think I own either Smart Women or Wifey but I never got around to reading it for some reason.

Madeline said...

Smart Women and Wifey are both very good reads, though don't come close to touching Summer Sisters in the amazing department.

I just finished collecting the California Diaries series myself but haven't actually read any of them yet.

Christopher Pike for the win, though.

Please do the Girl Talk where Katie joins the hockey team. Also the one with Alison's mom because that's the one where she redoes her room and dear god was I jealous of that room. I want description! :)

Also, you could do some Christopher Pike. The Last Vampire series or Weekend would be great.

Oh, thank GOD other people feel that way about Michael in Forever! I'm with you, snappleaddict...in some ways, it's a great, realistic portrayal of a teenage romance. I read it for the first time all the way through (as in, not just the sex parts) when I was 16 and started seriously dating a guy, and it was nice to know that desiring someone was normal and okay (this may sound naive, but keep in mind I went to Catholic school, where guilt reigned supreme).

On the other hand, yeah, the guy NAMED HIS PENIS RALPH, and he was kind of pushy with Katherine, which I really didn't like.

Snappleaddict, I vote for:
Girl Talk #2 (I think that's the one where Katie joins the hockey team)
Garden of Shadows ('cause I own it now!)
Slumber Party by Christopher Pike (one of the few CP books I ever read, utterly ridiculous!)
or any of the California Diaries books

Glad to see you're planning on finishing out FITA. I did find it at B&N, and read the first chapter. I hope I get to actually read it before you finish blogging on the whole series. (I still haven't actually bought it, but I might just do it this weekend!) I never read most of the other books on this list, except a few FH books. I still have a couple of those, actually. The show is one of my guilty pleasures. LOL

California Diaries! Man, I still love them. :) Girl Talk was great too...i

I would love to see some California Diaries...in the second one thirteen-year-old Sunny manages to convince a twenty-year-old (or if not twenty than close to it) that she's actually his age...ridiculous.

Jenny said...

Oh man, do you remember 2 Young 2 Go 4 Boys and that series? I loved those for some reason. I think it was because of the one book where the girl calls her crush a bastard in front of the whole class because he calls her Hershey Bar or something....
Do those! ^_^

Or Girl Talk. Man, I wanted Randy's converted barn house or whatever it was. Which one was it where her totally hip guy friend from NY came to visit?

Anonymous said...

So sad that I know this, but Randy's "hip" friend Sheck came to visit twice in the series...one was the first Randy book, and then he also came later in the series, during the book where Randy's mom decides to act like a parent.

You know, they always acted like Randy's mom was so progressive and neato and all that, when really she was irresponsible and a Sharon Schafer-Spier level crackhead.

snappleaddict said...

Sheck also visits in Drummer Girl, the one which convinced me Randy was tucking one back.

My vote is for anything BSC related--especially Little Sister books because they are so great to snark. Would also love to hear your take on Forever and I am dying to hear more about VC Andrews work!!

Gossip Girl/A-List. They may not have the shmaltzy charm/emotional impact due to having spent a childhood with them, but they are more relevant and current to today's teens...well, what today's teens want to be. Gossip has the trashiness, and A-List has a more relatable, modern-day, and seemingly actually talented version of Elizabeth Wakefield in Anna.

New to this blog, but it's pretty awesome!
I'd definitely love more V.C. Andrews and the California Diaries would be great, too.
As for others, I just remembered Rachel Vail's Ever After. That might be good.

More BSC and Sweet Valley!!

oh my gosh, a barthe de clements book for sure! do you have "nothing's fair in fifth grade"? that was one my ultimate favs when i was in third grade! i just loved that elsie edwards chick but i was scared of her mom's character. and her bratty sister! and that creepy old man who drove them to like, yonkers or something! or what about "how do you lose those ninth grade blues"? i love old school YA fiction, lol!

Did you ever read any of the Friends 4-Ever books by Deirdre Corey? It's about these four girls in Rhode Island, I think, and one of them moves away at the beginning of the series? I loved those! I haven't met anyone else who's ever heard of them though.

snappleaddict said...

I do not own any Barthe DeClements books (my copy of Sixth Grade Can Really Kill You fell apart), but I've read a lot of them, and love them hardcore.

Funny you mentioned the Friends 4-Ever books, I was searching this morning for my copy of We Were The Mulvaneys and came across the only Friends 4-Ever book I own and thought, "Huh, I wonder if anyone has ever read these?" The one I have is so awesome, Molly is such a brat!

Lauren said...

I would love to read a Friends 4-Ever recap! I had three or four of those and gave them away to a used book store a few years ago, along with most of my other most snarkable YA material... I wish I could go back and reclaim that box! I remember so little about F4-E aside from the characters' names, and that I liked Molly and Laura.

I also have a sadly large collection of Gossip Girl/Private/A-List/etc. these days, but they're just not as good for snarking. We're not supposed to take those girls seriously - I think we're supposed to recognize how shallow and awful most of them are - whereas we were supposed to read BSC and other 80's/90's series and wish we were those characters.

Anonymous said...

More V.C. Andrews, please!

Anonymous said...

Oh, BSC books! You definitely should do some more BSC ;-D
Also, Girl Talk - man, there were FORTY-FIVE of those?!?!? You're kidding! I (ashamedly) loved those FREAKIN' books, but I could only find about ... 9 or 10 of them, at the most. Made me sad.

So, yeah... BSC would be my number one preference, but Girl Talk, Full House, Sweet Valley, etc, would be cool too! :)

Surfer Girl said...

More Gymnast books! I only had a few of those, but they're so awesome to snark at!! Christopher Pike is good, too. Ooh, or Izzy, Willy-Nilly, which used to be one of my favorite books for some reason. It's very tragic and taught my little 8-year-old self what "amputated" meant.

TessieBambos said...

Ahhhh! I'm hungry for some snarkiness of the BSC pleasE! A sucktastic mystery you say? I'm there. Girl talk is tempting though. :):)

TessieBambos said...

OMFG! Friends 4ever? Please recap them! God, I still read them....seriously. STILL. I have all but one. Still searching :)
Does anyone else remember Dear Diary? With Lizzie Miletti or someone? Those were great, I have them all. :D
